The History of Fox Valley Presbyterian Church
Fox Valley Presbyterian Church (FVPC) began in 1951 as a new church development project of the Chicago Presbytery. It was officially organized as a Presbyterian congregation on December 14, 1952. After meeting in Harrison Street School, Geneva’s Unitarian Church and the Geneva City Hall, FVPC built its first sanctuary and held its first service there on Palm Sunday 1957.
During FVPC’s first decade, the congregation rapidly grew to exceed 100 members. FVPC dedicated its educational building in October 1962.
FVPC initiated many new programs and mission projects in its second and third decades. The Burning Bush, the Church’s monthly news journal, was started in 1961. Through these years, the congregation grew in size as well as in its outreach.
A new section of the building, which doubled the size of the Church, was dedicated in January 1980. The new section included an Adult Lounge, Music Room, kitchen, restrooms and a multi–purpose Great Hall, which is now used as church school classrooms as well as a meeting / dining room.
FVPC’s 450 seat sanctuary was first used Palm Sunday 1994. The old sanctuary was converted into classroom space, an open meeting area and a coatroom. The installation of movable dividers in the Great Hall, which enabled its use as Sunday School classroom space to accommodate the growing number of children, was part of the building project.
FVPC’s membership continues to grow, with over 700 members serving the mission of this part of the Body of Christ in the world. Together we will grow into the church family of ministry and mission that God in Christ is calling us to be!
